Wenn man über die deutschen Konzentrationslager spricht, so fällt unweigerlich
der Begriff “Orte des Grauens“.
Ausgehend von Deutschland bilden die Lager ein weitläufiges Netz durch Europa.
Über zwei Jahre war ich mit meiner Kamera an vielen dieser Orte unterwegs,
sie verweisen auf das Vergangene, das Schicksal vieler Menschen und
die Geschichte des Landes.
Die dort entstandenen Bilder sind kein Zeugnis und erst recht keine
Erklärung des dort Stattgefundenen, sondern eine Geste, wie
das Streichen über das Haar eines Toten.

Speaking about the German concentration camps the term “places of horror“ usually comes to people´s mind.
Germany was the centre of a wide net of many camps spreading all over Europe. They all point out to the past, to the regrettable history of my country and to the suffering of an oppressed and humiliated people.
The photos I have taken are not a documentation, they are not even an attempt to explain what has happened there, they are just like the soothing gesture of a hand stroking the head of a dying friend.
